We spent two nights at Camping Rässenwies, which provided a convenient base for visiting Rhine Falls (Rheinfail), just 12 km away. Although we initially planned to cycle, we decided to drive the motorhome and park directly at the falls. The campsite is clean and offers most basic amenities, but the lack of Wi-Fi might be a drawback for some. The owner is very friendly and goes out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. There are only a few nearby campsites, so two days is sufficient for exploring the area.
About Rhine Falls (Rheinfail)
Interestingly, you can stay overnight at Rhine Falls, which I’d recommend if I were to visit again. Just ensure you park in the designated motorhome area, as parking in the coach section could result in a hefty fee, as I learned the hard way. The falls themselves are breathtaking and a must-see when touring Switzerland. Standing at 23 meters high and 150 meters wide, Rhine Falls is the largest waterfall in Switzerland. During peak summer months, the water flow can reach up to 600,000 liters per second, making the sight even more impressive.
Most entry points are free, and exploring the falls can take several hours. Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy an ice cream near the exit, with stunning views of the falls in the background. For a more adventurous experience, you can take a boat ride to the small rock at the center of the falls, which gives you a unique perspective of the rushing water. I’d suggest avoiding weekends and peak season, as it tends to get crowded due to its popularity.

We stayed at Camping Luzern-Horw for 4 nights and had a lovely time. The site itself is nice, and our pitch was quite spacious and fairly level, which made setting up easy. The staff were super friendly, and while the toilets and showers were about average, the location more than made up for it. It’s only a 6km bike ride into the heart of Lucerne, and since we tow a small trailer for our Siberian Husky, Mia, it was perfect for exploring.
